Dear Mr. President,
I am sending you this notice of foreclosure received from my lender in hopes that you will initiate more aggressive efforts to help me and others to stay in our homes. These efforts should include a moratorium on foreclosures for persons who are attempting to achieve a "work out" with the lender. They should also include the establishment of an entity along the lines of the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC) that would help keep people in their homes.
As you know, foreclosures damage not only the homeowner but the entire economy. Millions of jobs are currently being lost by contractors, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, roofers and utility providers across the country. Foreclosures also put downward pressure on property taxes, crippling state and local governments.
Your campaign for the presidency was about change and hope. Unless you force some change in the cruel ways in which lending institutions are taking our homes, the hope you engendered may quickly turn into something far less beneficial to the society as a whole.
Sincerely yours,
